Inspirational Non-Fiction Author Debi Hutchens to Share at The Book Festival

Although many may call her an author, Debi Morzark Hutchens considers herself just a “talker on paper.” However, throughout her community, she is also known as a woman of faith, a fervent prayer warrior, a friend, an encourager, a cheerleader, and a broken vessel that a lot of water spills from. Having a deep passion to write since a child, it wasn’t until Debi went through her heart bypass journey that she discovered GOD was paving the way by using her adversity to open the door to fulfil her dream.

A Georgia transplant since 1982, Debi’s greatest joy and accomplishment is her husband, Larry, of fifty-three years, their four grown children and spouses, and ten grand-blessings (3 John 1:4). She is the author of A Bypass in the Road: Journey of the Heart; Got a Hole in the Bottom of My Shoe, but it is well with My “Sole“, and more recently, First Look Fresh Encounter: A Sweet Journey Through God’s Word, written together with two sister/friends. Debi is also a contributor to several advent books and devotionals, is presently fervently working to finish her third book.

Debi loves to share HIS hope wherever she goes. Recognizing there are many looking to fill a deep void in their hearts apart from JESUS, she lives out the calling found in 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV), “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the Hope that you have.” Debi also offers, “Drink from HIS Living Water and you’ll never thirst again. Promise.”

Local Children’s Author Angie Schwendeman Joins The Book Festival

Angie Schwendeman is a wife, mother, photographer, and author. The Cincinnati native resides in middle Georgia with her husband, daughter, and faithful black Labrador. Although Perimenopause and Menopause: What you really want to know, but no one tells you is her first published book, she has been writing blogs, poetry, stories, and partial manuscripts since her days at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Go Big Orange!

While researching neurology about hormones, for Book 2 (“Meno Edition” – tentative title), Angie needed a break from reading medical journals. She set out to write an imaginative story inspired by her childhood and devoted to her daughter and dog. As a young girl, Angie wasn’t a big reader. She found reading boring and couldn’t get lost in the pages. That changed when she discovered the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books. The idea that the reader could choose the path sparked an instant change, which quickly turned her into a voracious reader.

On what started to be a mini hiatus from hormonal research, she wrote a story about a curious girl who solves mysteries with her beloved black Labrador. Angie framed the story in the style of “Choose Your Own Adventure,” with readers making decisions at the end of each chapter. In a short time, Book 1 turned into the Liv & Indy: You Make the Call Series. She hopes these books will appeal to readers looking for something interactive and a little different.

Angie is a self-proclaimed wine snob who enjoys coffee, tennis, pickleball, hummingbirds, travel, writing, photography, and spending time with her friends and family.

Mystery/Suspense Author William Rawlings Returns to The Book Festival

William Rawlings was born, raised and lives in Sandersville, Georgia, home to his family for more than two centuries. His first five books were suspense novels set in rural Georgia. Turning then to non-fiction, he is the author of three subsequent works of Georgia (and Southern) history published by Mercer University Press. His books consistently garner excellent reviews, and he has been the recipient of a number of writing awards. One constant theme in Rawlings’s writing is a well-defined sense of place, especially in relation to the landscape of rural Georgia. He states, “One of life’s greatest pageants is the continuity of life in small Southern towns. Characters wander in and out, plying their intrigues and playing their roles, both major and minor. There’s hardly a need for fiction, as the truth is oftentimes more bizarre. What more inspiration could a writer ask for?” This approach to the floating opera of Southern life adds dimension and depth to Rawlings’s books.

Barry Kinservik Writes YA Sci-Fi!

Barry Kinservik was born and raised in South Georgia. He developed a love of reading in fourth grade with Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Barry hasn’t stopped reading since. He has always had a love for hero tales and stories of epic struggles. While he attended Georgia Southwestern State University, he realized that he not only loved stories, but that he could enjoyed writing about them as well. He was awarded the Dolores Randolph Capitan Award for best creative writing. All of these events helped Barry to decide on a career in writing. When Barry isn’t writing or working at his day job, he can usually be found playing video games. It is no wonder that Barry enjoys the story lines of the games just as much as he does actually playing the game. He is also working towards ministry work and is currently an apprentice pastor in the Global Methodist Church. Barry enjoys stories across many forms of telling such as: Music, video games, graphic novels, books, and movies. He is drawn to the similar and different ways each of these modes tells the story and how the same story alters between different modes. Some of his favorite stories are Dark Souls (video game), Berserk (manga), Neon Genesis Evangelion (television and movie), Metalocalypse (television and music), Gilgamesh (classic hero tale), Frankenstein (novel), Transformers (television, movies, video games, and comics), and the Bible.
